Green Success Stories sat down with Nick Huey of DataBriefs. We discussed the need to depoliticize climate change and focus on common benefits of sustainability. Nick described the great work DataBriefs does helping green companies and nonprofit organizations with online marketing. He stresses that there are lots of people, regardless of political affiliation, trying to leave the world better than they found it.
Tell us a bit about your sustainability journey.
Since high school I’ve wanted to help address climate change, but didn’t know what I could do to help. In 2017, I decided that the real problem was that climate change had been politicized, and we needed to show Democrats and Republicans that it’s okay to work together on climate change. I started a nonprofit called “United We Change” and teamed up with Utah’s two biggest rivals, the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, to show democrats and Republicans that you can work together even if you hate each other. We got on every major news station in Utah on our first day of operations, which was pretty fun.
From there I got connected with an amazing nonpartisan climate org that teaches citizens to lobby for climate action. I began consulting with them in 2019, and continue to help them with their advertising and online marketing efforts today.
I’ve also taken on two solar companies as clients to help them get solar on more rooftops.
In 2022, I ran for Congress as a Republican. Climate change was one of my top 2 issues.
Tell us a bit about the product or solution you offer.
I help green companies and nonprofits to target, message to, and convert leads through online marketing efforts. We use Meta (Facebook and Instagram) as well as email campaigns, webpage optimization, and more.
Share a green success story with us – how have you helped customers or other businesses in the fight against climate change?
This year, we helped a climate nonprofit to break their record for online donations in their March fundraiser.
We also helped a climate nonprofit achieve a 5X return on ad spend for their year end fundraisers in 2022 and 2023, which was not something they had achieved before.
What would you do with $1 billion dollars?
I would establish a nationwide, citizen-led lobbying agency to combat corporate interests in American politics. Corporations have lobbyists. Earth should too.
What do you envision your industry looking like in ten years?
I think that a lot of marketing will be automated by AI, and that sustainable services and sectors will become even more sought after as climate change become un-ignorable.
What would you like readers to take away from this article?
That there are lots of people like them trying to leave the world better than we found it, including Republicans like myself.
How should readers get in touch with you and/or your organization?
