We sat down with Xuna Li, founder and director of Futurenergy, who spoke to Green Success Stories about the decarbonisation, digitalisation and decentralisation of the power industry.
Hi Xuna, can you tell us a little bit about you and your background?
After completing my Bachelor and Master’s degrees in the UK, I started my first job as a power systems engineer as I genuinely enjoy the life style I have had already in the UK. Thereafter, I spent around 10 years in different job positions in the UK before I started my own business Futurenergy Partners, a consultancy specialised in grid connection, power systems and electricity supply, as well as developing renewable projects with partners. I am a environmentalist who always took a bag when shopping around, and keen on recycling things etc. Renewable energy has been attractive word for me since when I was young, and I always wanted to contribute to environment protection in a way I can. I like solving problems and if a job is not done at work, or not done well enough at work, I always choose to work on it diligently until it is resolved and/or the methodologies have been iterated to a level which I feel satisfactory with. At the same time, I have always planned to start my own business and wanted to provide something different and make customers’ life easier where possible. I have a lot of ideas to try out and I feel genuinely happy and excited when I am working on these ideas. I cannot wait to see how the greener future will look like!
What is a fun fact about you?
I like nice food worldwide, but not very good at cooking and have not been cooking a meal for years!
Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?
The resources and resilience ability of the earth is limited. In the past, the nature does not need to be “protected”, as it is self-hilling system which does not create rubbish, all the animals in the world are in harmony with each other. When the economy grows, the living quality of human kind has improved a lot as a result of industrial activities, and many other animals disappeared from the earth. This means if the balance is broken between the key components in such a eco-system, no one can escape from the consequence. I liked a sentence in <The Three Body Problem> very much, it said “Do not try to add more years to your life, better add more life to your years”. Sustainability is so important in a way to benefit all creature and life quality on earth.
What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?
The renewable industry will surely face more digitalisation, decarbonisation and de-centralisation. More and more interactive technologies, renewable energy connections, end users to participate in the market. The power industry will become more efficient, greener and more interactive. Battery storage will also become more and more in the system.
What can the average person do to make a difference?
Start by switching off computer screens, start by purchasing renewable technology generated electricity etc.
