Green Success Stories shines the Green Spotlight on Victoria F. Vega, Founder and CEO of Pero Like Consulting.

Tell us a bit about the product or solution you offer.
Pero Like Consulting helps build capacity in progressive and people-centered entities through public relations, communications and marketing efforts. Rooted in social justice, as founder and CEO, I have worked across movements with organizations such as the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Climate Mental Health Network, Solar United Neighbors and more! I am a grassroots communicator and a mission-driven public relations professional. I’m a proud Latina and activist, born and raised in Miami, FL.

Share a green success story with us – how have you helped customers or other businesses in the fight against climate change?
I worked with Solar United Neighbors developing their Spanish communications efforts specifically in Puerto Rico, and across the United States. Through my Spanish communications work I was able to help make the process of switching to solar energy more accessible, affordable and stress free for Boricuas. Solar energy for Puerto Rico is about a lot more than sustainability. Solar energy allows Boricuas to take back their energy rights, and reclaim autonomy over their lives. The people of Puerto Rico have been facing power outages and a skyrocketing of electric bills for years now. My Spanish communications work furthered the efforts of Solar United Neighbors, and helped uplift Boricuas in Puerto Rico through solar energy.

What would you do with $1 billion dollars?
With $1 billion dollars, I would contribute the funds to a variety of efforts:
– Donate to grassroots initiatives making a direct impact in low-income, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities;
– Invest in education through scholarships primarily serving low-income, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth;
– Donate money to community organizing and activist efforts working from an intersectional framework to uplift marginalized communities;
– Open a community art center that provides a space and supplies to members of the community to create art, in addition to art classes for all ages, and serves as a space for local community organizations to meet and host events.

What do you envision your industry looking like in ten years?
In ten years I would hope to see an increase in communications and marketing capacity across social justice spaces, making social justice content the mainstream on social media. It would be amazing to see all local community organizations operating with full communications capacity, hosting podcasts, creating media that will populate our platforms, connecting with local members of their communities to not only inform them on local issues, but to empower them to act and create change!
