Green Success Stories puts Marcelo Valansi, founder and CEO of Ecovilla, in The Green Spotlight. Marcelo describes his exploration of what it means to live in balance with nature, and his insight into how sustainability is not just about technology or individual choices — it’s about systems. He puts this insight into practice with Ecovilla, designing and developing regenerative community models that integrate regenerative land use, water stewardship, renewable energy, community governance, education, and social infrastructure into cohesive living ecosystems. With his efforts, Marcelo helps people understand that sustainable living doesn’t mean sacrifice — it can mean better quality of life, stronger community ties, and a deeper sense of purpose while actively reducing environmental impact.
Tell us a bit about your sustainability journey.
My sustainability journey started less from ideology and more from lived experience. After years of working, building, and raising a family, I realized that many “successful” systems were quietly eroding community, health, and the land itself. That led me to Costa Rica, where I began exploring what it really means to live in balance with nature while still engaging with the real world. Over the past decade, sustainability for me has evolved from personal lifestyle choices into designing and building regenerative communities that integrate ecology, education, social impact, and economic viability. I see sustainability not as perfection, but as a continuous process of learning, repairing, and improving how we live together on this planet.
Tell us a bit about the product or solution you offer.
We design and develop regenerative community models that go beyond “eco-friendly” features. Our work integrates regenerative land use, water stewardship, renewable energy, community governance, education, and social infrastructure into cohesive living ecosystems. This includes residential communities, educational hubs, and social-impact projects that are designed to restore ecosystems while fostering strong human connection and economic resilience. The solution is not a single product, but a replicable framework for how communities can live, learn, and thrive in harmony with their environment.
Share a green success story with us – how have you helped customers or other businesses in the fight against climate change?
Through our projects, we’ve helped families and organizations shift from extractive development models to regenerative ones. We’ve restored degraded land through reforestation and water-management strategies, reduced dependence on centralized utilities through decentralized energy and water systems, and supported local economies by prioritizing local labor and materials. Perhaps most importantly, we’ve helped people understand that sustainable living doesn’t mean sacrifice — it can mean better quality of life, stronger community ties, and a deeper sense of purpose while actively reducing environmental impact.
What would you like readers to take away from this article?
I’d like readers to understand that sustainability is not just about technology or individual choices — it’s about systems. When we redesign how we live together, we unlock solutions that benefit both people and the planet. Regeneration is possible, practical, and already happening, and each community — no matter the size — can be a powerful agent of positive change.
