This week we had the chance to connect with Ryan Laverty, CEO and Co-Founder of VIDE, a company that is creating better adult beverages for the self-aware consumer.
While we all love a good cocktail, the beverage industry has huge environmental implications for our society – including water and energy use, consumption of resources like aluminum, glass, and paper, and production of waste. So we ask the question: “How can we keep sipping on the drinks we love while being a conscious consumer?”
VIDE has the answer.
Based in New York City, VIDE’s mission is founded on social responsibility. As a proud partner of Climate Neutral™, VIDE is able to offset their entire carbon footprint. The drinks are all-natural, gluten-free, zero sugar, zero carb beverages – and most importantly, sustainable! Let’s get to know the man behind the mission: Ryan Laverty.
Tell us a little bit about you, your background, and your current role:
Hey! My name is Ryan. I grew up in Long Island, New York. I graduated from Penn State in 2016, where I studied both Marketing and Finance. I currently serve as the CEO and Co-Founder of a Premium Canned Cocktail line called, VIDE. I love to read, invest, cook, exercise and hang with friends and family! Here at VIDE, I am responsible for scaling our brand. From sales, to financing, innovation, marketing- you name it. Here in startup world, we all wear many, many hats!!
Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?
We’re finally at a point in time where we can measure and correlate our impacts with the health of our planet. With such valuable data, it is imperative as humans and brands to mitigate our impacts on the earth. With businesses evolving so quickly to keep up with consumer demand, our negative impacts on the planet haven’t been this pronounced in history. In a time of such great technological achievements, it is crucial to use these tools to better ourselves, our operations and our impacts!
What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?
I’d love to see multiple brands across our industry pledge to work towards carbon neutrality while simultaneously adjust both operations and packaging offerings to be more sustainable, reusable and environmentally friendly.
What can the average person do to make a difference?
Working towards sustainability doesn’t need to encompass such large, drastic lifestyle changes. Small practices such as recycling, buying sustainable products, and using reusable products are all great steps to begin living more intentional lifestyles.
