Green Success Stories puts Eric Fischgrund, Founder and CEO of FischTank PR, in The Green Spotlight. Eric describes his love of nature and his environmentalism, and how this has translated into a career-long commitment to helping green companies grow via communications and media relations. To that effect, Eric has founded FischTank PR and grown it to the top climate/cleantech/sustainability PR firm in the country. He recommends that professionals marry their personal interests in sustainability into fulfilling careers, and be willing to “put themselves out there” and pursue their vision.
Tell us a bit about your sustainability journey.
I entered the world of communications and media relations at a small PR firm in Hackensack, NJ in 2008. Fortunately, many of their early clients were what we referred to at the time as “greentech” companies.
I had always enjoyed nature and environmentalism, and the subject matter was a natural fit for me. 17 years later, I’m still here.
Tell us a bit about the product or solution you offer.
FischTank PR is the top climate / cleantech / sustainability PR firm in the country. Brands in the energy tech and sustainability sector come to us to establish their media presence and speak assertively as a brand.
We are passionate about the subject matter, and very results oriented when it comes to media relations and communications. We conduct direct outreach to journalists who know and trust us, sharing our clients news and insights in a manner that drives coverage.
Share a green success story with us – how have you helped customers or other businesses in the fight against climate change?
The media coverage produced by FischTank PR has reached investors who have poured capital into our client brands; customers who have placed orders for, received and installed technologies like energy storage, solar and hot water heat pumps; government officials who have reached out to and engaged our clients; and so many more meaningful outcomes.
What would you do with $1 billion dollars?
Donate all but one million bucks to various nonprofits supporting initiatives spanning climate change, homelessness, animal rescue and rights, and medical research.
Nothing good comes from inheriting too much money. Look how our president and many political leaders turned out, the majority of whom were born with a silver spoon dangling from their lips.
What do you envision your industry looking like in ten years?
Bigger, much bigger. The climate change problem isn’t going to go away, and technologies such as solar, energy storage and electric vehicles (EVs) have passed the tipping point and will become much more mainstream. More venture capital and private equity will continue to pour into the space as America and its citizens pursue commercial, residential, industrial and utility scale energy security.
What would you like readers to take away from this article?
The first takeaway is that professionals can marry their personal interests (like mine in sustainability) with their careers. They just have to be willing to “put themselves out there,” so to speak, and identify an opportunity to provide a service, idea or product that supports the respective industry.
