Hospitality’s Best Kept Secrets

Share

Green Success Stories sits down with Alexandria Tomayko, CEO and Founder of Little Black Book, to learn about hospitality’s best kept secrets, and what she is doing to make event planning and traveling more sustainable. Black Book Events is the industry’s first unbiased database designed to link event planners and group appropriate hotels. Nature advocate, nomadic traveller and planner.
Her life work has been in creating memorable experiences for others as an Experience coordinator.
The main reasoning behind her success is her understanding of the need for human connection and how events can satisfy this. Founder of Little Black Book Series, through a need she had when planning national and international events for clients and herself.

Tell us a little bit about you and your background:

I have had a long career in all areas of Hospitality Events (wedding planner, trip planner, incentive trips, retreats and more). After long time in the industry and realizing that working events was not very sustainable I branched out into tech now the founder of a marketplace to help Event Planners source venues in a more sustainable way. We rank venues based on their sustainability practices and policies to help get the work out for those that are making an effort to be more conservation and sustainable minded and hoping to provide encouragement to those who are not in the industry.

What is a fun fact about you?

I love the Water and Excels.

Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?

It’s something we all need to be doing, there are so many sides of sustainability not just the Environmental side of things so through education and people finding what area they are more passionate about we can collectively start collaborating in a sustainability positive direction.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

I would LOVE for us to filter all things through the sustainability filter when making decisions when it comes to development, infrastructure, waste disposal, travel, energy sourcing and education. We can include all of this in our practices and use the opportunity of travel and hospitality to educate and help to promote in a positive way the impact and reversal we can have through simple adjustments and better decision making.

What can the average person do to make a difference?

Educate yourself is the first and foremost! There are so many sides and ways that you can take action, so educating yourself in what are some of the damages we do and what are some of the modifications that most align with you and your life can help you to then choose to go into action with ease.

Alexandria, thank you for sharing hospitality’s best kept secrets.
