How To Green Your Household: Simple Tips For Environmental Consciousness

Greening your home and office is one of the easiest ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Everyone can give a little green treatment to their home or office. It does not cost much money, but it will have a huge impact on the environment. Here are some simple things you can do to make your household greener.

Green your home

Choosing more eco-friendly products, by using more reusable household items and eliminating plastic and paper products when possible, will significantly reduce your home’s impact on the environment. You can use re-purposed materials, such as the ones from your old home when it comes to making gifts and other crafts. Use more energy-efficient appliances. Use more durable and long-lasting home and office products. Products like shampoo and laundry detergent are cheap, but they contain chemicals that have been linked to cancer and birth defects.

Green your office

This is a very simple process, but it can have a huge impact on the environment. Replace your lightbulbs with LEDs. This will reduce electricity consumption and give off much less heat. Many modern buildings also have HVAC systems that need to be switched on unnecessarily. Replace your old office computer with a portable unit. Ditch the CRT monitor and replace it with an LCD monitor. And when installing your HVAC, look for green alternatives such as heat pumps or energy recovery ventilators.

Greening, not just for the environment, but also for health and financial benefits

Keeping a green home and office is one of the best things you can do for the environment. Greening for your own health is equally important. You need to think about the air quality and how it affects your respiratory health. Check the condition of your home, windows and all the objects around. You can also check the indoor air quality through a simple home air quality test. Even when there is no source of pollution, small particulate matter in the air have a negative impact on the air quality. It causes conditions like asthma, and other respiratory problems. Green buildings that are clean and efficient cut down on the amount of pollutants, and are good for your health.

Conclusion

What is the first thing you think about after stepping out of your home after a tiring day? If you said, ‘How dirty the environment is’, then it is high time you started to green your environment. The sooner you start to green your environment, the easier it will be to make an impact on the environment. This small change will have a huge impact on the environment and you will get many benefits in the process. Now that you know how to make your household greener, are you greening your environment?
