Going Green had the opportunity to talk to Dan Bushong, Founder and Director at GetTrashed SD. Being based in San Diego, Going Green works hard to support our friends right here in our backyard who are doing amazing things. Lets learn a little more about Dan!

Tell us a little bit about you and your background:
I am originally from Maryland and lived in Hawaii for a few years. My first job out of college was selling solar panels for Solar City.

What is a fun fact about you?
My Audible subscription often costs more than my power bill.

What was your motivation to get into this industry?
I always believed that sustainability would be a something that could provide us and future generations with abundance. We live on a planet with finite resources, and setting up a framework to use those resources responsibly is our duty to our fellow humans and future generations.

Why do you think climate change/sustainability is such an important topic today?
I believe that it has always been an important topic, but now communities who were once blind or immune to seeing the effects of climate change are being confronted by it.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?
I think it will grow even more mainstream. More and more people will see the benefits of doing things sustainably and for the environment. I think the business aspect of sustainability will grow as well, it will be cheaper to do things correctly and sustainably the first time rather than paying to fix issues.

What can the average person do to make a difference?
If you see trash on the ground pick it up and dispose of it correctly.

What positive changes are you seeing?
More and more people are showing up to our cleanups, and we are able to pick up more and more trash. Sponsors are increasing and they are supporting our efforts.
