Green Success Stories sat down with Cassidy Wilson, sustainable traveler and content creator. Cassidy describes her passion for world travel, and especially for sustainable tourism. As the head of ChasingCassidy.com she creates captivating stories and stunning visuals to raise awareness for impactful causes, while at the same time providing consulting services for small nonprofits. She hopes to help readers see that sustainable travel is not just possible but incredibly rewarding – It leads to deeper connections, more authentic experiences, and a greater appreciation for the places we explore.
Tell us a bit about your sustainability journey.
My sustainability journey began in 2022 during my sophomore year of college, where I was deeply involved in leadership development and networking. While juggling a full-time student workload and multiple jobs, I felt disconnected from my true passion—traveling the world. I realized that I wanted more than just a vacation; I wanted to truly connect with people, support local businesses, and explore the culture of the places I visited. This led me to embark on solo travel, where I quickly became passionate about sustainable tourism.
In 2023, I began sharing my experiences and educating others about sustainable tourism, focusing on its three pillars—environmental, economic, and cultural impacts. I noticed a significant gap in the conversation around sustainable travel, especially on social media. Most people weren’t aware of what sustainable tourism really means, so I made it my mission to fill that gap.
To deepen my understanding, I took a major step in my journey and applied for a research opportunity at Oxford University. There, I collaborated with experts in social marketing, wildlife conservation, and hospitality, which further solidified my passion for promoting sustainable travel. Now, I continue to build my platform to inspire and educate others about how their travel choices can have a positive impact on the world around them. I’m excited to keep learning, connecting with like-minded individuals, and sharing the message of sustainable tourism with others.

Through my travel content business, Chasing Cassidy, I create captivating stories and stunning visuals to raise awareness for impactful causes, particularly in the fields of sustainable tourism and conservation. I leverage my expertise in conservation marketing and advertising to connect individuals with nonprofits and sustainable businesses. In addition to content creation, I provide consulting services for small nonprofits, helping them with marketing strategies, product photography, and social media content.
One of my biggest projects is the development of the first digital sustainable guide to Oxford, England. Awarded a scholarship to the University of Oxford from January to April 2024, I conducted research on sustainable tourism and conservation marketing, diving into public perceptions of sustainability. I’m working with a tech company in the UK to create an interactive, chronological timeline that highlights sustainable hotels, dining, activities, and events in Oxford, dating back to 1000 AD. Once the pilot project is completed, I aim to create similar guides for other cities and popular destinations!
Share a green success story with us – how have you helped customers or other businesses in the fight against climate change?
I’ve helped friends and family better understand how their travel behaviors—such as flight choices—directly impact carbon emissions and the environment. It’s incredibly rewarding when they start making more conscious travel decisions and share those experiences with others.
One of my favorite moments is when I recommend a sustainable travel experience—like staying at an eco-lodge, choosing a local tour operator, or visiting a conservation-focused destination—and later hear how much they loved it. When they post about it online and share their excitement with their own networks, it creates a ripple effect of awareness and action.
Beyond individuals, I’ve also worked with many small nonprofits and businesses to help them gain exposure through marketing and content creation. Seeing these organizations grow and knowing that my work has helped connect them with travelers who genuinely care about sustainability is incredibly fulfilling.
What would you do with $1 billion dollars?
With $1 billion, I would first invest in my ability to continue traveling so I can expand my sustainable travel guides and create even more authentic content. This would allow me to keep connecting with small businesses, nonprofits, and tourism operators around the world, helping to amplify their work and bring attention to sustainable initiatives.
I would also donate to many of the incredible places and organizations I’ve connected with during my travels, supporting conservation efforts, community-led tourism, and ethical wildlife experiences. A huge passion of mine is education, so I’d love to create a scholarship or funding program for students interested in conservation and sustainable travel, making study abroad opportunities more accessible.
Beyond that, I’d invest in funding research projects and creating grants for individuals and organizations working to advance sustainability in tourism!
What do you envision your industry looking like in ten years?
In ten years, I envision sustainable tourism becoming the norm rather than the niche it is today. As awareness grows, travelers will actively seek out ways to reduce their impact while still having meaningful experiences. Studies already show that people want to be more sustainable but often don’t know how or worry about the costs.
A recent report from Booking.com found that 72% of travelers believe we need to act now to make sustainable choices for future generations, and 55% are more determined to travel sustainably than they were a year ago. This shows a clear shift in mindset, but accessibility and education remain key barriers.
I believe the next decade will bring more transparency in the travel industry, with better labeling and certification for sustainable options, increased investment in eco-friendly infrastructure, and stronger collaboration between tourism operators, local communities, and conservationists.
What would you like readers to take away from this article?
I want readers to walk away from this article with a new perspective on their own travel habits. Sustainable tourism isn’t about being perfect or giving up the things you love—it’s about making small, intentional choices that add up to a big impact.
I hope this article sparks curiosity and encourages people to reflect on how their travel behaviors—where they stay, what they do, how they interact with local communities—can either support or harm the places they visit. Many people don’t realize that some common travel habits have unintended negative consequences, and I want to bridge that knowledge gap in a way that feels empowering rather than overwhelming.
Most importantly, I want readers to see that sustainable travel is not just possible but incredibly rewarding. It leads to deeper connections, more authentic experiences, and a greater appreciation for the places we explore. Everyone has the power to make a difference, and it starts with awareness and action.
