Green Success Stories shines The Green Spotlight on Yoni Sappir, CEO of Future, an Israeli consulting firm pushing for bold climate action. Yoni describes his evolution from the tech and business world to the world of sustainability and climate tech, forwarded by his sudden awakening (after a sleepless night) to the likely damage to be caused to beaches, health and the future by a proposed gas rig project. He has moved on to found the grassroots Israel Earth Guardians, as well as the Clean Energy Forum, and has since channeled his expertise into scaling global green ventures. His mission – to make Israel a global leader in the fight against climate change, and to ensure a cleaner, greener future for all.
Tell us a bit about your sustainability journey.
I never imagined I’d become an environmentalist. My world was tech, business, and family – until 2017, when I learned about the Leviathan gas rig project. As a physicist, I dove into research, and what I uncovered – threats to our beaches, health, and future – shook me to my core. One sleepless night, running the numbers, changed everything. I left my tech career behind and founded the grassroots movement Israel Earth Guardians, rallying tens of thousands in Israel’s largest environmental battle. But the fight didn’t stop there. Recognizing the need for systemic change, I established the Clean Energy Forum, comprised of organizations and experts, all as a volunteer. I also joined several governmental, presidential, and academic forums to promote sustainability and climate resilience. Today, as CEO of Future, I channel my expertise into scaling global green ventures. From boardrooms to policy forums, I push for bold climate action, forging partnerships, unlocking funding, and driving innovation. My mission? To make Israel a global leader in sustainability and climate solutions, ensuring a cleaner, greener future for generations to come worldwide.
Tell us a bit about the product or solution you offer.
As CEO of the consulting firm Future, I spearhead initiatives to scale global green ventures. My expertise encompasses forging partnerships and business breakthroughs. With decades of experience as a mentor, entrepreneur, and director, I’m passionate about shaping strategies, streamlining funding, developing creative investment structures, and fostering innovation. My proficiency extends to helping ventures penetrate new markets and generate revenues, solidifying my position as a notable player in driving sustainable practices in the fight against climate change.
Share a green success story with us – how have you helped customers or other businesses in the fight against climate change?
I’m honored to have been recently recognized as one of the “30 Best CEOs to Watch in 2025” by IMPAAKT Magazine. I take great pride in helping humanity navigate its long and challenging journey toward a more sustainable and resilient world.
One of my most impactful contributions was last year when I developed an in-depth report with 13 strategic recommendations for Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s largest metropolis (~12M residents). The report aimed to support the city’s industrial evolution and sustainable transformation. I had the privilege of presenting it to city leadership, integrating global case studies to illustrate each recommendation. Following the presentation, I remained engaged, offering my expertise to support the implementation of this ambitious plan. Knowing that my work could help shape the future of such a major city has been an incredibly rewarding experience.
What would you do with $1 billion dollars?
With $1 billion, I would establish a dedicated fund to invest in high-impact ventures that drive the energy and economic transition while enhancing climate preparedness. The fund would focus on identifying and nurturing innovative Israeli and Israel-related companies across critical sustainability sectors, including:
- Clean Energy & Infrastructure: Renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, hydrogen, SAF, energy storage, grid technologies, and waste-to-energy (W2E).
- Sustainable Industry & Materials: Clean manufacturing, low-carbon buildings, green construction, industrial sustainable heat solutions, circular economy innovations, and novel sustainable materials.
- Agriculture & Food Systems: Ag-tech, precision agriculture, food-tech, food loss & waste reduction, and soil health solutions.
- Water, Ocean & Biodiversity: Water-tech, ocean ecosystem restoration, forest and land conservation, and biodiversity protection.
- Climate Tech & Carbon Solutions: Carbon sequestration, direct air capture, carbon utilization & management, chemical carbon solutions, and carbon monitoring systems.
- Sustainable Mobility & Supply Chains: Mobil-tech, sustainable transportation, transparent & agile supply chains, and climate resilience for extreme weather events.
- Digital & Financial Innovation: Risk and finance solutions, sustainable digital infrastructure, carbon trading platforms, and Earth observation systems.
This fund would not only provide capital but also strategic guidance, mentorship, and market access to accelerate breakthrough technologies. My ultimate goal is to position Israel as a global leader in climate innovation, fostering solutions with measurable, scalable, and lasting impact on the planet.
What do you envision your industry looking like in ten years?
A decade from now, the sustainability and climate-tech industry will no longer be a niche sector – it will be the backbone of the global economy. As climate risks intensify and regulations tighten, businesses that fail to integrate sustainability will struggle to survive. The transition to clean energy, circular economies, and climate-resilient infrastructure will no longer be optional – it will be the standard.
Key transformations I foresee include:
- The End of Fossil Fuel Dominance – Renewables, energy storage, hydrogen, and next-gen grid technologies will drive a decentralized, resilient, and carbon-free energy system.
- Climate Tech Becomes Mainstream – Carbon sequestration, sustainable materials, and nature-based solutions will be fully embedded in industrial processes, making net-zero commitments a reality rather than an aspiration.
- Massive Carbon Removal Scaling – By then, we will have global mechanisms capable of removing 1-5 gigatons of CO2 annually, using a combination of direct air capture, ocean-based sequestration, enhanced mineralization, and nature-based solutions. Carbon will become an asset, fueling industrial applications and circular economies.
- AI & Digitalization Revolutionizing Sustainability – Earth observation systems, blockchain-based carbon trading, and AI-driven predictive analytics will optimize resource efficiency and enforce corporate climate accountability.
- A Global Investment Shift – Green finance and impact investing will outperform traditional markets, with sustainability-linked funding becoming the primary driver of economic growth.
- Geo-Politics of Climate – Nations will compete not just over energy but over climate innovation, water security, and supply chain sovereignty, reshaping global power dynamics.
- Consumer-Driven Sustainability – Public demand for ethical supply chains, regenerative agriculture, and transparency will force industries to rethink production and consumption patterns entirely.
In this future, Israel will play a key role as a climate-tech powerhouse, exporting breakthrough solutions that tackle the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. My goal – and that of my company, Future – is to accelerate this transformation, ensuring that sustainability isn’t just a goal but the foundation of global progress.
What would you like readers to take away from this article?
First and foremost, there is no greater mission than protecting our health, enhancing our quality of life, and securing a sustainable future for our children. While the climate crisis poses an existential threat, it also presents an unprecedented opportunity – a turning point toward a cleaner, healthier, and more balanced world. Instead of seeing it as a challenge, let’s embrace it as an incentive to innovate, collaborate, and build a future that is not only sustainable but also more promising for generations to come.
