How To Get More Oscars For Climate Themes

The Academy Awards took place a few weeks back, with its annual short (ha!) tribute to the best of the best in the world of film.

While the winner of this year’s best film – Oppenheimer – had something to do with the environment – as in we now have the ability to end our environment completely at the push of a button – we can’t really say there was a big environmental focus.

And while there have been some winners in the past with environmental themes – An Inconvenient Truth, Wall-E, and Erin Brockovich come to mind – we can’t say there has been that much of a focus on sustainability in motion pictures. Considering the magnitude of climate change, there has certainly not been enough.

Good Energy is out to change that.

Good Energy is an organization comprised of “storytellers, climate experts, journalists, artists, researchers, and writers who have worked on hit shows and films and understand the human side of climate change.” They actively promote inclusion of climate change issues in scriptwriting and in the movie world in general.

The New York Times has called Good Energy “Hollywood’s climate adviser.” They provide consulting, workshops, a playbook and more toward including climate topics in the movie experience.

And they insist on it being a great story. As Anna Jane Joyner, founder of Good Energy says: “The most important thing is to do what you do best: tell a damn good story. We’ll help with the rest.”

So – take Good Energy up on their offering of help. And in the future, when you walk on the red carpet with eco-friendly gown or tux and thank everybody and their mother for your climate-themed Oscar win, you’ll add the folks at Good Energy to your acceptance speech.

We at Green Success Stories are looking forward to it!
