As part of TRIWA’s Time for Change strategy, they have now launched a new website with a commitment to full impact transparency and carbon footprint calculations on all products. The carbon footprint calculator has been made with Swedish impact-tech company Doconomy to enable 2030 certifications.
We have long been a fan of TRIWA’s vision and goals, and love following their story. We had Ludvig Scheja on the Green Podcast.
All calculations have been made using Doconomy’s 2030 Calculator. The 2030 Calculator incorporates unique emissions factors for each and every element of the product’s journey; material, packaging, transportation, and the energy consumed in the manufacturing process itself to determine its calculations. All calculations are cradle-to-gate and self-declared.
“At TRIWA, we are constantly looking for innovation for our products and our manufacturing methods to find solutions for a better planet. Our partnership with Doconomy is founded on our ambition to find sustainable ways to make meaningful products. The future of our relationship with our customers relies on greater transparency and mutual responsibility for the impact we cause” says Ludvig Scheja, Co-founder and Creative Director at TRIWA.
On the new website, each product declares its carbon footprint next to the price, allowing all customers to better understand its impact. For example, a watch from the Ocean Plastic Collection has a total carbon footprint of 1,38 KG CO2e, whilst a Smokey Nevil has a carbon footprint of 3,07 KG CO2e. TRIWA’s commitment towards impact transparency is two-fold, both accelerating customers’ understanding of a product’s carbon footprint and establishing a starting point for TRIWA’s own ambition to reduce the overall impact of manufacturing and distribution.
“It all comes down to material, weight, production methods, and transportation, but by learning and sharing we can identify where we need to improve” continues Ludvig.
Seen as part of a bigger picture, the partnership with Doconomy and The 2030 Calculator helps establish data comparability – essential to help consumers make more informed purchase decisions, while ensuring that the sustainable production of low impact products in itself provides a competitive edge. ”At Doconomy, we are proud to support TRIWA’s sustainability efforts, making environmental impact more tangible to all their customers. Transparency is not a drill; it’s not short-term; it’s not marketing. It’s a way to deepen the relationship with consumers and promote their willingness to create a more sustainable future together”, says Johan Pihl, Co-founder, and CIO at Doconomy.
About 2030 Calculator
The 2030 Calculator is a new service that radically simplifies the process of calculating a product’s carbon footprint by eliminating all previous hurdles, activating the brand’s commitment towards sustainable production and responsible consumption.
It can be used by any product brand or manufacturer to quickly calculate the carbon footprint of their products based on the emissions created from manufacturing and transport up until the point of sale. The 2030 Calculator uses unique emissions factors for each of the product parts, material, packaging, transportation, as well as the energy consumed in the manufacturing process to determine its calculations. All calculations are cradle-to-gate and self-declared. In short: It’s the tool all responsible brands can use to do their part for a more sustainable future and business.
About Doconomy
Doconomy, founded in Sweden 2018, provides digital solutions to help track and measure carbon footprint. Doconomy’s service, DO, a mobile banking app, manages savings and promotes sustainable consumption. The Åland Index Solutions impact calculations in DO use data covering 99% of global market cap, through a unique partnership with Trucost, part of S&P Global. Through Doconomy’s collaboration with the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC), to educate and engage individuals around climate action, additional innovative tools to explain our impact are also developed. Doconomy utilizes innovation, data and design to support consumer change of behavior by enabling well-informed choices which, in turn, promote responsible consumption. The 2030 Calculator is such an innovation, increasing transparency and responsibility on a product level.
