Creating Micro Solar Cells By Re-Using Discarded Solar Panels

Green Success Stories sits down with Daniel Clark, the founder and president of T3DP. T3DP is enabling the carbon zero future by engineering highly efficient, easy to manufacture solar technology. Conventional solar panels incur a high environmental debt. It takes 130 liters of oil to produce 1 silicon solar panel. Estimates are that 78 million tons of toxic solar panel waste will be in landfill by 2050. In contrast, T3DP invented a process that allows our micro-solar cells to be manufactured at close to carbon neutral by re-using glass from discarded solar panels.

Let’s get to know Daniel a little bit better. Tell us a little bit about you and your background: 

Our startup T3DP, an R&D project with roots in blockchain and green tech, uses Advanced Manufacturing Technologies such as Volumetric 3D Printing and our Subzero Forming Technology that can help usher in a Green Manufacturing Renaissance.

I first started in solar at American River College in 2009 which manifested through the Obama Approved American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. My passion for solar then branched off into Additive Manufacturing known as 3D Printing where I ran a project with Renishaw UK running Solar Grade Silicon Particles through a Metals 3D Printer at Liverpool University.

What is a fun fact about you?

I throw the football with my right hand and write with my weaker left hand.

Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today? 

So we can leave a better world for the human race through love, light, and Innovation. When I have kids someday I don’t want to have to hear them say: Why didn’t you do more when there was still time left? You could’ve changed it but you were too scared.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

A Sustainable Manufacturing Force for good through Innovation.
