Helen, thanks for being here. First Question – What would you do with $1 billion dollars?
$1 billion—1. Create green sanctuary zones in the Hawaiian Islands (my birthplace and cultural home), 2. Invest in forest lands worldwide, 3. Create scholarship funds for emotional healing, non-violent communication and possibility programs, 4. Give to my spiritual teachers, 5. Create a 100% sustainable home for me and my loved ones to live in, 6. Keep writing books, and 7. Express love and gratitude for people around me.
Why do you think sustainability is such an important topic today?
Trillions of dollars in property, infrastructure and investments are being lost to crazy weather phenomena. This means business leaders are finally paying attention. 2. Billions of people, animals and insects are migrating as climate refugees. This means politicians are finally waking up. 3. Millions of people are disrupted with their homes, travel and livelihoods. This means the regular consumer finally sees the reality of climate change. 4. Food and water supplies are threatened, leading to higher prices. This means everyone is painfully aware. 5. If we cross the point of no return, we may have no Earth to live on. This means either Armageddon or a new world of possibility now for a sustainable earth.
What do you envision your industry looking like in ten years?
More books will be printed digitally than on paper, because the cost of paper will have skyrocketed. More authors will incorporate Artificial Intelligence to write their books, harnessing rapidly evolving technology. In the Western world, more people will be in poverty from a lack of education, while others grow in wealth from intelligence gained from books. In the rest of the world, the middle class will grow with education from books.
