This week we connected with Kyle Webb, Cofounder at Optimized Sciences. Throughout his career, Kyle’s focus has been on disruptive utility innovations such as Advanced Metering (AMI), Demand Response (DR), Energy Efficiency, Advanced Distribution (ADMS), renewables integration (DERMS), and Microgrids. Through these experiences, Kyle learned the importance of advancing sustainability and decarbonization goals.
Optimized Sciences was built to overcome design challenges facing energy systems in order to evolve into a sustainable energy ecosystem. Through strategic planning, solution design, implementation, and digital transformation services, the goal is to advance new technologies and accelerate the journey to a sustainable planet. The mission: harness scientific advancement to create a sustainable future.
Now, let’s get to know Kyle!
Tell us a little bit about you, your background, and your current role:
I have over 15 years of professional services experience focused on Smart Grid technologies, cyber security, and systems integration. Currently I am a Cofounder of Optimized Sciences. Our organization is dedicated to harnessing scientific advancement to create a sustainable future. We are introducing a breakthrough technology called Software-Defined Electricity (SDE) that allows us to enhance the efficiency of our electrical systems in upwards of 25%. SDE utilizes a unique AI power correction capability to correct sinewave imperfections of Alternating Current at a sub-cycle level with over a million times a second precision. The result is efficiency, safety, load performance, and maximum design flexibility for DER integration.
What is a fun fact about you?
I’ve been directly involved in the engineering & design for several of the largest Smart Grid projects in North America through my prior career in professional services.
Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?
Our current trajectory is unsustainable, we must change our course to ensure the viability of planet earth for future generations. I believe we can do so by utilizing advanced engineering & science in conjunction with positive ROI business models. We must look at the intersection of capitalism and science to overcome the barriers to real progress.
What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?
Electricity is controlled with AI. Generation, Transmission, and Distribution as we know it is being retrofitted for Software-Definition as rapidly as it can to harness the incredible benefits. We can now have near 100% non-linear loads / Distributed Energy Resources (DER’s) within a distribution circuit because of Software-Defined Electricity’s ability to solve the engineering issues of inertia and power quality prohibiting the net zero transition today.
What can the average person do to make a difference?
Help spread the word: the technology we need to rapidly accelerate our net zero transition is already here, but we need pioneers to pilot with us and help forge the way forward to enable a fully sustainable electrical system.
