At Green Success Stories, a huge focal point is BlueTech. One of the biggest leaders in this industry is Silent Yachts, a company dedicated to the blue economy and keeping our oceans clean! Let’s sit down with Lionel Joham, and get to know more about Silent Yachts.

Tell us a little bit about you, your background, and your current role:

My name is Lionel Joham, and I am the Marketing & Brand Manager at SILENT-YACHTS. I am a marketing graduate with international experience who loves traveling and learning about how to live a life more in-tune with the planet.

Silent Yachts offers the first and only ocean-going yacht that is fully solar sustainable and powered by solar energy. We believe that sustainability in yachting goes beyond the solar electric drivetrain. We know that in order to make yachting work hand in hand with nature, it requires a more holistic approach in all areas.

What is a fun fact about you?

I’m a vegetarian, but I hate green peas.

Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?

Climate change is a topic that literally affects all of us. Every single human being on this planet. It impacts our society not only in the present, but especially for generations to come.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

Similar to the automotive industry, the yachting industry will have undergone a significant transformation. Solar powered electric yachts will have become more adopted by the mainstream consumer rather than the being a (comparatively) smaller market niche serving early adopters. Increased production and demand will have made the technology cheaper for boats and yachts in lower price ranges. Other areas of the marine sector will have partially adopted electric propulsion as well.

What can the average person do to make a difference?

Conscious consumption. As consumers, we have several choices every day. It is important for us to inform ourselves about the consequences of our choices for the environment and then, try to make the best educated decision on which products and brands to support.
