Electric Vehicles – over time they have evolved to become more efficient, less expensive, and ultimately, more accessible to the average human. Since the beginning, there have been early-adopters who have championed for the EV industry and helped us laypeople understand the technology; Brenna Kaminski is one of those people!

As Co-Founder of Space Coast Electric Vehicle Drivers, a company designed to make EV knowledge available to everyone, Brenna helps answer all your EV-related questions on their awesome youtube channel: Space Coast EV Drivers. Let’s get to know Brenna!

Tell us a little bit about you and your background:

I have over a decade of experience as an EV owner and advocate. I have been a city captain for Plug in America’s National Drive Electric week since it was know as National Plug in Day and I have really seen EVs take hold. Currently I provide communications, marketing, and social media solutions in the EV industry as an independent contractor. But, I am looking for a full-time role. I recently had a 6 months contract as the Associate Director of Communications and Research for Drive Electric Florida to help them assess their event needs and get them the tools needed to get their social media up and running. Previously, I’ve held communications, marketing, and business roles at various organizations in the defense, non-profit, and education sectors including a role supporting the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in the counter proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction. I have a Bachelor’s in Communications Advertising from The University of Alabama and a Master’s of Public Administration from Florida Institute of Technology. I am the co-founder of the Space Coast EV Drivers club and YouTube channel which I run in my spare time. I enjoy traveling with Servas a unique host and exchange program, driving my Tesla Y, spending time with my husband and dog, and of course planning EV meet-ups.

What is a fun fact about you?

I am on my 5th EV. Volt>Volt>Volt>Leaf>Model Y

Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?

I live in a costal area of Florida where it is easy to see how climate change and pollution from gas and oil as well as pesticide run-off impacts residents on a daily basis. Our lagoon is sick, sea levels are rising, coral is dying, hurricanes are getting stronger. We have to do as much as we can individually to make an impact but we also need to hold major industries accountable and push for change. That could mean anything from pushing for more electrified options including mass transit from OEMs to holding businesses accountable for product packaging that can’t be recycled.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

More EV options, more efficient batteries, major breakthroughs in charging and recycling, less gas and diesel vehicles in all classes on the road and a generally electrified future.

What can the average person do to make a difference?

Find a way to ditch internal combustion vehicles. Look into the used EV market, calculate how much range you really need, look at options for other electrified transport, and in the age of work from home re-evaluate your situation to determine if you can move to a one car household.
