CalWave has been on a mission to unlock the vast and steady carbon-free power from ocean waves worldwide, and because of this, we are excited to learn more about Co-Founder Marcus Lehmann, and everything that he is doing in the bluetech and hydrodynamics industry. Going Green sits down with Marcus to learn about his background, passion, and vision for what the future of bluetech and hydrodynamics looks like.

Tell us a little bit about you and your background:

Marcus Lehmann, serves as the CEO of CalWave Power Technologies Inc. Marcus founded CalWave in 2014 and uses his experience in systems engineering, energy systems and entrepreneurship, to lead a diverse team of engineers, business development specialists, advisers, and industry partners to unlock the vast and steady carbon-free power from ocean waves.

Prior to CalWave, Marcus held research positions at UC Berkeley, Mechanical Engineering, the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and was a project lead at the Cyclotron Road program.Marcus holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from Technical University Hamburg, graduated from Technical University Munich with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and received an honors degree in technology management from the Center for Digital Technology and Management.

Marcus Lehmann, Cofounder and CEO of CalWave Power Technologies Inc.

What is a fun fact about you?

I work in wave energy where we have to master the hydrodynamics but am only a intermediate surfer (so far).

What was your motivation to get into this industry?

For my final project in high school, I built a solar race car and learned about climate change, the IPCC and the growing need for renewable energy and decided to dedicate my career to the it.

Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?

Covid 19 has given us a taste of the effects of an exponential curve impacting everyone on the planet. Climate change represents a similar threat on just an order of magnitude or more impact-full not only on the economy and humanity but all species and delicate and unique biodiversity of our shared and only livable planet.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

Ocean energy to provide 10-30% of clean energy.

What can the average person do to make a difference?

Vote and ensure congressional support for clean and ocean energy and removal of subsidies for non renewable energy sources.

What positive changes are you seeing?

ESG and carbon neutrality becoming main stream, financial effects of climate change is showing up in the books of our large financial institutions, renewable energy companies out performing the S&P500.

Going Green wants to thank Marcus for sharing his vision for the future of bluetech and hydrodynamics.
