Tips to Save Energy in Your Home: Simple and Effective Ways of Saving Energy

Share

We all want to save energy in our homes – it helps the planet and our budgets – but sometimes it can be hard to know where to start. Here are a few tips on how you can save energy with some simple changes around your house.

The Basics of Energy Efficiency

What is energy efficiency? Energy efficiency is about changing your perspective, and developing good habits. The key is to think about how you use appliances and when!

Can you lower your thermostat a few degrees in the winter? Can you change your windows or shades to save on energy? Can you avoid running the dishwasher during peak hours?

Whenever you use an appliance, it is important to consider the environment! This starts with your initial purchase, and being aware of the most efficient appliances.

Tips for Saving Energy at Home

Saving energy is all about the efficiency of your appliances, lighting, and other fixtures in your home or apartments for rent in Denver, CO. Some of the things you can do to save energy in your home include:

  • Use energy efficient appliances to help conserve energy
  • Minimize the use of electricity and water by unplugging your electronics
  • Install Energy Star-rated faucets and taps
  • Install Energy Star-rated light bulbs

Some more methods include thermal wallpaper, insulation, and more efficient heating and air conditioning. Plug-in night lights, ceiling fans, and motion sensor lights can save up to 10% of your energy usage. Water faucets and faucet aerators can decrease water use. Homeowners can replace incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs to save money.

These methods are important to consider when purchasing a new home, which may have low-efficiency windows and doors (meaning energy consumption can be high).

Efficient Appliances: Manual Tricks and Tips

Many electrical appliances come with an automatic switch to turn the appliances off when not in use. However, you can always embrace the old-fashioned method and unplug!

There are so many appliances we can unplug including the toaster, microwave, coffee maker, coffee maker, and even the refrigerator! A fridge is designed to hold in the cold, which is why it is called an ice box; unplugging your fridge when you are leaving home for the day can greatly reduce energy consumption.

It is important to keep a close eye on your thermostat, and have your home’s furnace checked periodically. With a thermostat, you are in control of your home’s climate. While comfort is key, it is also important to consider where you can make small, daily changes – like wearing a sweater and socks or opening windows for air; do your part to reduce energy consumption when you can!
