Energy Dome Green.org

Green.org sat down with Claudio Spadacini, Innovator, Entrepreneur, Founder & CEO at ENERGY DOME, to learn how they are starting up a trial plant to store energy in compressed gas.

Claudio, thank you for being here. Tell us a little bit about you and your background:

I am a professional engineer and entrepreneur in the renewable energy and cleantech space. I like to invent new technology in the energy sector and to convert those innovation into new venture to create impact and help to solve the world largest issue, the climate change.

What is a fun fact about you?

‘My wife is so happy that I come back every morning several time just to to say hello! In reality the first time I realize I lforgot the glasses, the second the keys and sometimes even the phone ….. always thinking about great things, always forgetting the smalls ‘’

Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?

“Today” is a key world in this question. I think we all agree that decarbonisation is an act of responsibility towards future generations, that it is essential to slow down and contrast climate change. But this is not just an important matter, it is also extremely urgent. If we don’t start to act now, there will be no possibility to keep the global warming below the target and it will be too late. My personal belief is that disruptive innovations are the most effective way to allow a radical change and improvement of the society. The world deserves new technologies and innovations that have the potential to make our world a better place and correct the mistakes made in the past already today. That is what we are currently focusing on in Energy Dome, we made available to the world a technology that can unlock radical change to allow full penetration of renewable into our grids decarbonizing the way we produce our energy.

What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?

If you look at any projections for Long-Duration Energy Storage industry in 10 years from now, they all have the typical “hockey stick” shape. With a massive growth of the market and number of projects in 2030. Energy Dome is trying to shorten that period and accelerate that inflation point which in our opinion is technology constraint. Our technology is extremely rapid to deploy on a global base with no limitations or bottlenecks because it relies on an existing and well-developed supply chain. My personal dream is that in 10 years the “Dome” will be the symbol of the energy transition, like the wind turbines and solar panels have become a symbol of sustainability today.

What can the average person do to make a difference?

I believe that the single behaviour of each one of us will be very important to mitigate the dramatic effects of climate change but at the same time, as already mentioned, I also believe that the real chance should be driven by disruptive innovations that can make things change regardless of the single behaviour.

Claudio, thank you for sharing how you are starting up a trial plant to store energy in compressed gas.
