Jack Arkfeld, Solar Energy Consultant at LGCY Power, joins Green.org to share his vision for renewable energy.
Hi Jack, thanks for being here. Tell us a little bit about you and your background:
I’m an energy consultant for LGCY Power. I have also been an energy auditor through Habitat for Humanity in their Weatherization Program.
What is a fun fact about you?
I can say the alphabet backwards.
Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?
It’s important because the decisions we make now will determine if our grandchildren will have food on the dinner table or where in the world they can live. Climate change will affect us in so many different ways, but if people take more responsibility for their actions today then the world our next generations can live in will be fruitful and beautiful.
What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?
I would love to see households all over the United States having solar on them for sure. I think with the huge strives battery tech is making, large scale energy storage units for neighborhoods or cities will be commonplace. If it is cost effective, I think using ocean currents and hydro power would be revolutionary for coastal cities.
What can the average person do to make a difference?
Reduce and reuse. Do away with recycling since most products end up in the trash anyway. Carry around reusable utensils, travel mugs, and food containers to avoid single use plastics.
