Green Success Stories met with Laurie McGinley, to learn all about how she mentors and motivates both inventors and investors in ClimateTech so that they can successfully bring their products and ideas to market in order to help the world and reduce global warming. She does this by taking their vision and using strong storytelling to bring that idea to life.
Hi Laurie, thanks for sharing your story with us today. To get started, please tell us a little bit about you and your background:
I’m an Architect who left practice in order to have a bigger impact on reducing global warming. I leverage my architectural training of translating expert language into stories many stakeholders can understand to help climateTech founders communicate their future based, multi faceted, complex stories to a variety of partners who can help them grow.
Since I was a teenager, I’ve been supporting high achieving people by helping them envision the more impactful version of themselves are and helping them step into that power. This is my super power and I’m using it to help climateTech founders launch and grow.
Via Lucent provides storytelling that maximizes enrollment in your vision and coaching that helps you step into your power. If you’re going to be someone who raises $10M and builds a successful company, you can start being that person today and it will facilitate your growth process.
What is a fun fact about you?
I practice woodturning as a meditation. The work I do requires me to be rested and present in order to fully support our clients. I can only do that when I take the time to practice woodturning. It gets me into a state of focused relaxation and allows my mind to resolve any challenges it has been working on.
Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?
I’m drawn to big, messy problems that have multiple solutions and require coordination and collaboration. Solving climate change is the biggest challenge we face because it poses immediate and powerful threats to our existence. As far as big, messy problems go, this is the biggest and messiest one I know of and we must solve it.
What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?
I support a variety of founders across a variety of industries. My future vision of the world is one in which we power our needs with renewable energy, have reliable energy storage, mobilize in ways that are low impact on the planet, have food systems that are regenerative in nature, are locally resilient in the built environment and in social structure, and where people have access to what they need to thrive.
What can the average person do to make a difference?
So many people ask me this question and there is no single answer that works for everyone. If you are someone who carries a lot of anxiety and stress about how your individual life is contributing to climate change the best advice I can give you is to make one phone call per week to a lawmaker who is working to bring about systemic change in an area that matters to you.
If you are someone who has never considered changing your life to make an impact, I’d poke around to discover something that matters to you and help you explore how to have less of an impact in that one area. The reality is that we need a variety of solutions at a variety of scales to address the challenges climate change poses.
Laurie, thank you for connecting with us and we look forward to seeing your continued positive impact in ClimateTech.
